When I was young, I broke out of my shell as Mom, who was Brazilian, played Brasil 66′ by Sergio Mendes on her old phonograph. I was repeating the past in dreams and waking hours and needed a release. I began swinging my hips, snapping my fingers, around the living room and kitchen to the bossa nova and jazz rhythms of Brasil 66.’ I, so gracefully, took a liking for the art and beauty of the Brazilian music and beat.
