My husband, Joe’s father passed away in Illinois, Christmas 1985. I was certified nurse’s aid for twenty years. Many sick people were placed in my care during that time and not one was lost by the neglect or care of my skills as a nurse. As years went on I became a Preschool teacher and Joe continued his work running a printing press. He managed, by his preference, to take care of his juvenile diabetes and other physical symptoms, At night I would monitor his breathing, his dizziness, his twitching and crying out. I took care of him. I was there beckon call for him as more than one time I needed to call the paramedics for his sugar lows we could not control. He got an insulin pump and things were better. I am so thankful for my nursing experience to be able to help Joe to be strong when his father passed away and to face the discomfort of anxiety of life when it happened and other demands that came about with his disease.
